Political correctness strikes again

The City of Lockhart in Caldwell County (about a thirty minute drive from Austin) is proposing several changes to the city's charter, which must be approved or denied by voters in the November 6 election.

Among these is an amendment which will change the term "councilmen" to "councilmembers" throughout the document.

All those in favor of ridiculous, time-wasting changes to the City of Lockhart's charter say "aye."

Perry endorses Giuliani

I think this development is interesting - Perry's jumping on board with Giuliani now in order to support the "winner." It's just like election season last year, when he was actively fundraising for McCain, who was the front-runner at that point.

I doubt he's gunning for VP, but a cabinet position is not out of the realm of possibility. Perry's interests lie outside of Texas, whatever he may be saying about having the "best job in the world." If he really thought that, then he would have been campaigning in Texas the week before the gubernatorial election instead of hobnobbing in Washington.

And if he IS planning to run again for governor, he needs the RNC to back him up, as they were the only force that kept KBH out of the 2006 race. So sucking up to Giuliani may be a good strategy - not that it matters all that much, because he still got less than 40% of the vote and a really good Democrat could knock him silly in 2010.

There is no consensus candidate, and this proves it. Perry's for Giuliani, Abbott and Patterson are for Thompson, the base is for Hunter, Paul, and maybe Thompson. That's in Texas - outside of Texas, the candidates are Romney and Giuliani.

Further proof that the Nobel Peace Prize isn't all it's cracked up to be.

First off, there's 1994. Yasser Arafat (yes, the TERRORIST Arafat) received the Nobel Peace Prize for signing the Oslo Peace Accord, along with Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin of Israel.

Which he then proceeded to violate (*cough*intifada*cough*).

Then, there's the simple fact that what Al Gore did is hardly on par with, say, Irena Sendler's actions. She rescued Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi occupation of Poland, and later attempted to reunite these children with their parents (most of whom, tragically, were killed in the Treblinka concentration camp). Sendler was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

Not everyone agrees with Gore - there is no scientific consensus on global warming. And, if his work had produced some kind of significant contribution to the study of "climate change," then he would be better suited for a Nobel in the science categories.

But what, exactly, does Gore's work have to do with the cause of global peace and prosperity?

Not much, say some.

Ronald Reagan ain't walkin' through that door

So says Jonah Goldberg in today's National Review Online here.

Conservatives don't have many choices for president in the upcoming Republican primaries.

Right now, I'm leaning toward Thompson, Hunter, or Huckabee.

But you see the problem inherent in that, right?

Sigh.
